Electrician - Apprentice Position

Role Summary

We are currently seeking licensed Electricians and Apprentices to join our Construction Team. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Construction Services, this position will be responsible for leading or assisting with construction projects for large commercial & industrial (C&I) and utility sectors (running conduit, pulling cable, coordinating subs, installation of TX, PCS and SWGRs) battery testing and installation. The ideal electrician/apprentice will have experience within the construction field with a focus on low voltage power distribution and medium voltage power systems. Solar and battery storage systems experience is preferred.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of the construction team in the building of energy storage design-build projects
  • Familiar with design and operation of power systems ranging from 208V to 35kV distribution and transmission systems
  • Knowledge, interpretation, and application of Canadian electrical code 2021: CSA C22.1:21 and CSA Z462 / NFPA 70 E and applicable energy codes
  • Knowledge of single-line drawings, elementary and wiring diagrams, equipment specifications (including transformers, MCC, switchgear, substation equipment); power plans, conduit plans, cable schedules, system studies and protective relay settings.
  • Ability to interpret client specifications, redline construction packages
  • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required
  • Must be able to attend commercial and industrial sites and observe all applicable safety regulations
  • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Soft skills; able to interact, as part of a team, with all types of clients and teammates; detail-oriented; proactive and able to manage time well; able to build relationships
  • Communication skills. Be fluent in the English language with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Role Summary


We are currently seeking a Construction Estimator is responsible for supporting the Construction team and will report to the Senior Director, Construction Services. The Construction Estimator is accountable for ensuring competitive and accurate estimating services for all aspects of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects throughout Canada and the northeast United States, with particular focus on electrical construction services. This is a multi disciplined role that will work closely with the Electrical Manager, Construction Services and Project Managers to work efficiently and proactively towards successfully executed BESS mandates. It’s also critical for the Construction Estimator to foster and facilitate a culture of respect, safety and collaboration amongst the team and external partners.

Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Handle multiple complex project construction estimate assignments.
  • Continue learning the interrelationship of client RFP information, design, and costs related to energy storage systems within project estimate.
  • Collaborate with personnel from other departments for solicitation of respective cost input into project estimate.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of vendor quotes for materials, equipment, and services.
  • Review quote requirements and work with Construction Manager and Engineering to define design requirements, estimate quantities, and obtain quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Provide indicative budgets per client requests before RFP issuance.
  • Develop documentation of cost and schedule to support the bidding process.
  • Summarize estimates, translates into proposal form, and provides detailed estimate spreadsheets.
  • Review estimate information with field operations leadership personnel and senior level management for required approvals.
  • Determining the amount, type, and cost of materials needed for each electrical project.
  • Determining the amount of labor required to complete each project.
  • Determining the potential profitability of electrical projects to assist management in making sound bidding decisions.
  • Providing viable solutions to increase project profitability.
  • Completing and submitting competitive project bids in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Regularly updating cost databases to accurately reflect fluctuating material and labor costs.
  • Evaluating labor and material costs to determine whether it is more feasible to construct electrical components or sub-contract the construction of components.
  • Collaborate with regional leads to understand early-stage project developments and anticipated cost risks.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in plan and estimate review meetings, other project review meetings, customer meetings and site investigations, as needed.
  • Perform costing reviews to ensure the engineering teams get the results they need from our tools.
  • Prepares estimate turnovers to project managers.
  • Assist in generating scope of work.
  • Prepare call list and follow up for coverage.


Required Skills/Abilities:


  • Ability and willingness to work on “the tools” when estimating services is not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and own multiple construction related plans for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to review and understand multi-trade construction drawings and specifications, as well as construction best practices across and array of trades, including surveying, civil, structural, and electrical construction.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, make decisions, prioritize, and meet assigned deadlines in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

Senior Manager – Construction Services Position

Company

Role Summary:

We are currently seeking a Construction Senior Manager – Construction Services. The Senior Manager, Construction Services is responsible for supporting all facets of the Canadian

Construction team and will report to the Senior Director, Construction Services. The Senior Manager is accountable for ensuring the safe and high-quality execution of multidiscipline Battery Energy

Storage System (BESS) projects throughout Canada and the northeast United States.  This is a multidiscipline role that will work closely with the Electrical Manager, Construction Services to work efficiently and proactively towards successfully executed BESS mandates. It’s also critical for the Senior Manager to foster and facilitate a culture of respect, safety and collaboration amongst the team and external partners.


Location: GTA.


Travel Requirements: 15% travel required


Reporting to: Senior Director, Construction Services


Responsibilities:


  • Supervise, support, and coordinate with Construction Supervisors and field staff.
  • Work directly with the Electrical Manager, Construction Services to ensure divisional requirements and expectations are being met and exceeded.
  • Lead the implementation of any project specific mobilization plans, construction plans, QA/QC, or commissioning plans, as required.
  • Supervise the execution, and optimization of pre-construction activities.
  • Verify constructability, resource allocations, and assess field status of projects and resolve issues as needed.
  • Review construction progress reports provided by the Construction Supervisors
  • Support progress at sites before, during and after active construction for quality control and reporting.
  • Interact daily with Construction Supervisors, subcontractors, and consultants to provide assistance and guidance as needed, in the coordination of deliverables such as scopes of work, capital need assessments, contract documents, schedule of values, submittals, contracts, applications, and permitting.
  • Ensure safety program is being followed across all projects.
  • Assist with change, risk, and quality management.
  • Communicate with stakeholders as needed.
  • Work closely with partners to develop work breakdown and duration estimates.
  • Oversee the project timeline and progress of the pre-construction process through to closing and hand off to our field team.
  • Assist with project engineering plan design review, evaluation and implementation.
  • Facilitate defining a scope of work, construction goals, and stakeholder deliverables for each project.
  • Achieve the project objectives and controlling construction phase risk by applying current performance pros and cons to upcoming projects to ensure the highest probability of accuracy in the scopes, quality in materials, schedules, and costs.
  • Multi-document review and quality control related to guiding agency requirements.
  • Attend and lead pre-construction meetings via conference calls and in-person meetings.
  • Identify potential problems and corrective actions that need to be implemented on current and future work in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records by monitoring all document changes and costs associated.


Qualifications (Must-Have):


  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing construction projects, with preference for experience delivering Distributed Energy Resources (DER), renewable energy technologies, or other power generation projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and own multiple construction related plans for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively communicate expectations, goals and concerns to subcontractors and project management team members.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to review and understand multi-trade construction drawings and specifications, as well as construction best practices across and array of trades, including surveying, civil, structural, thermal and moisture protection, and electrical construction.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, make decisions, prioritize, and meet assigned deadlines in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Strong work ethic, a high degree of detail orientation, and an extreme sense of urgency.

Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):

  • Experience in the BESS preferred, but not required.


Work Environment/Physical Demand

  • Position requires periodic travel to project site(s).
  • Travel up to 15%
  • Generally, this position is performed at the office.
